I went into this with very little in the way of expectations, and they were all shattered. My kids love this show and I do not, but I don’t mind taking them to things I assume I won’t like (I’m looking at you, Peter Rabbit). Imagine my surprise when I saw a movie with a ton of heart that perfectly mocked our dependence on the superhero genre, while getting me to practically erupt with laughter on several occasions. Between the Stan Lee cameo gag, the endless Batman spinoff trailers (Alfred, Batmobile and Utility Belt are all getting their own movies here), the Slade/Deadpool jokes and the very last line in the movie right before the credits, I was practically in tears. I truly didn’t expect to like this at all and wound up absolutely loving it. It’s one of those seemingly rare non-Pixar kids movies that I would totally recommend to people who don’t even have kids. It’s just a damn good animated movie.
