I don’t even know what to say about this film. It was amazing. It was awesome. It was…. no, I won’t do it. Brad Bird has shown a unique gift in crafting action set pieces, whether they be animated or live-action. Throughout the 1 hour and 58 minute run-time (which feels brisk), there are a countless number of beautifully designed sequences that are a joy to watch. The jokes did not feel out of place, and even when some of the jokes didn’t quite hit as hard as others, you never feel that you’re being hit over the head with jokes until something sticks. There was no ham-fisted message that Bird was trying to shove down our throats, which I greatly appreciated. The script has a perfect balance of comedy/fun and drama/heart. I cannot say without watching the original again, which is better, but I have a feeling that debate will certainly happen. Even if this movie isn’t as good as the original, there is no doubt this movie is worth seeing in the theater, it is worth paying full price for and it will make you laugh and smile. What more do you want?
