Silence
Written By Martin Scorsese
Directed By Jay Cocks & Martin Scorsese

What is the true cost of faith? That seems to be the central question in this Scorsese work, and for such a simple question, it can be a very complex, powerful and brutal one. Two missionaries from Portugal travel to Japan in the 17th century, looking for a priest rumored to have renounced Christianity, as it is outlawed and those who practice it are tortured and executed.

For someone such as myself, who has no religious faith, to find a film based around such deep devotion so interesting and engrossing is a testament to the power of the film. Scorsese put his heart into every frame and it shows. It’s a gorgeous film to look at, while being simultaneously hard to watch. Silence speaks volumes.
