Definitely, Maybe

10. Definitely, Maybe

This movie is a wonderful change of pace from your typical cookie cutter romantic comedies. There is a lot of heart and a lot of humor, on top of a story that will have you guessing until the final scene.

Moonrise Kingdom

9. Moonrise Kingdom

An absolute all-star lineup of adults, paired with relatively unknown children make for an extremely unique cast. Wes Anderson is in prime form, here. It is quirky, heartfelt, funny and intrinsically charming.

Obvious Child

8. Obvious Child

This film tackles a very serious situation (unexpected pregnancy) and adds much needed levity, which makes the content palatable. It will make you laugh and cry in the same breath. The word “genuine” comes to mind when thinking about this movie.

Midnight in Paris

7. Midnight in Paris

Any fan of the written word will enjoy this film. If you are a sucker for nostalgia, this one will also be for you. It is a fun, lighthearted story that each time will have you coming back for more.

Silver Linings Playbook

6. Silver Linings Playbook

The acting in this film is something to marvel at. It’s a hopeful story that deals with a dysfunctional family dynamic, as well as tackles mental illness. Pop some popcorn, cuddle up on the couch and turn this movie on. You will not be disappointed.

Lost in Translation.jpg

5. Lost in Translation

This is Bill Murray’s finest performance of an illustrious career in Hollywood. This is also the film that skyrocketed Scarlett Johansson into super-stardom. The balance between sadness, romance and comedy has yet to be topped.

Cruel Intentions

4. Cruel Intentions

This is total guilty pleasure flick. Seduction, lies and betrayal sit at the heart of this teen drama. This film is wicked and raunchy, in all the good ways.

Almost Famous.jpg

3. Almost Famous

This is one of the most touching films that I have seen. Cameron Crowe is a master at conveying emotion in his films, this one being the “crown jewel”. With one of the greatest soundtracks in film history, this coming of age tale has more heart and charm than it knows what to do with. You will be smiling for days after watching this.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.jpg

2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

A wild ride through the minds of lovers, attempting to find love/happiness. This movie is twisty, turny and will leave you mesmerized. It feels as if you are being walked through a dream. This is masterpiece of storytelling and one that you will not soon forget.

500 Days of Summer.jpg

  1. 500 Days of Summer

The chemistry between stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel is remarkable. This is a romantic-comedy flipped on its’ head and told perfectly. 5 minutes in, you know how the movie will end, but… it’s about the journey, not the destination.
